You're right. I enabled that D-Bus plugin and then the error message
showed up. If I do that backend-switching above again, the D-Bus plugin
gets disabled. Aha.
I can also confirm Bug #749084, there are no methods in the
org.freedesktop.compiz bus in D-Bus Explorer.

No problem. The real reason is that compiz's dbus-backend is broken:

So the easiest way is to disable this plugin in ccsm as long as this
plugin is broken. Anyway, Shutter is not reacting in a useful way, so I
might spend some time here
Yes, the setting was set to the GConf backend. I guessed that maybe that
setting was broken so I set it to the flat file configuration backend
(which caused unity to crash) and then back to GConf. Now everything is
working fine and I've never seen this error message again. That wonders

the "GConf-Backend" is enabled within ccsm (compizconfig settings
