You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

Unity isn't slow just on this particular laptop, but in every system
that's using an AMD IGP like HD3200 or HD4200. I have a Radeon HD4200
and can confirm every single application runs much slower than with
classic Ubuntu. The exception are fullscreen 3D applications like games
which run as expecte
@Alex: as I said, turning off Sync to VBlank has not fixed the problem;
this doesn't seem like a duplicate of that bug, which is specifically
about Sync to VBlank being off.

I disabled Sync to VBlank as per the first suggestion, but it still
feels like I'm crawling, even if that did have some improvement...

Radeon HD 4200] [1002:9712]
According to the page this has good 3D support:
RS880 RadeonHD 4
could you try using the opensource driver if that's an different?

I can't say this has substantially improved. The entire system feels
sluggish. Applications running Adobe Air (such as Tweetdeck) are nigh-on
unusable for their slowness.

Have just disabled this setting but can't, at present, determine if it
