I have the same laptop, and encounter the same issue on 11.04. I found
that if I disable the FGLRX driver through Additional Drivers I can
suspend/resume reliably. When that driver is enabled it fails every
time. Hibernate always worked. I tried most combinations of settings in
/etc/default/acpi-su

I am dual-booting Ubuntu 11.04 with Windows 7 and I see this issue in
Ubuntu 11.04.
If my Toshiba NB550D goes to sleep it will not wake up.
In each case it requires force-reboot.
Hibernate usually works without problem.

I formated the partition, on which Ubuntu was installed (with Windows 7
Partition-Manager) and installed Ubuntu 11.04 beta release from USB-Stick. I
use Ubuntu Classic (no effects) and now Suspend to RAM works fine
I like Ubuntu 11.04 very much. It runs fast on my netbook.
