I have the same laptop, and encounter the same issue on 11.04. I found that if I disable the FGLRX driver through Additional Drivers I can suspend/resume reliably. When that driver is enabled it fails every time. Hibernate always worked. I tried most combinations of settings in /etc/default/acpi-su
