With Kubuntu 8.10 and KDE 4.1.3 behaviour is the same as I reported
previously for Kubuntu Hardy with KDE 3.5.9: in the username field
things work as expected, in the password field they still don't.
I'm also reopening bug #54564 since kdesudo in kubuntu intrepid also
seems to suffer from this def
Thanks for the update.

I have almost the same problem: the difference is that it appears after
I log out my session. My password contains a # character, entered using
« AltGr + " » on a fr layout. If I restart X (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), the
password field works with AltGr.

Still with the same xorg keyboard setting, it is now possible to write
accented characters correctly in the username field of kdm (the issue of
typing ' resulting in ` is also gone there).
Unfortunately, in the password field things still don't work. Since I
can't find any way to make kdm display
Hi jcfp,
Is this issue still rearing its ugly head with any of the latest
releases? If so, any information that you can provide that you think may
help us troubleshoot this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Negative, it's not fixed in kde 3.5.6. Behaviour has changed though; '
and " now result in one rather than two stars being (directly) printed.
Just like in the original bug report none of the other dead keys work,
so effectively Xorg's intl keyboard setting seem to be completely

Having a similar problem that may well be related: kdm misbehaves when
typing the first character of a password -- the entire password text
field fills up and will not accept any keyboard input (like home, bksp,
delete, even return). Many times an xserver restart is required by
