The ez200 has othing todo with the spca driver.
please run "lsusb" after attaching the camera.

I have downloaded Mepis, Mandrake, Gnoppix Gphoto2 under all of
them report the same error message. Therefore this is not a problem
unique to Ubuntu. I am still trying to borrow another camera to try out
before buying another.
I guess my old Kodak EZ200 is past its prime. It did work howev

Before I upgraded my version of gphoto2/libgphoto2. Ubuntu came out with
Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy). I have upgraded to that and has made no difference.
I have tried to compile libgphoto2/Gphoto2, but am having trouble with
missing libraries etc. I will look at it in detail when I have my day
off next wee

Thankyou for taking the time to respond. I figured it had something to
do with the spca5xxx driver. I will look for later version libgphoto2
and give it a go and let you know what happened.

the problem is that the spca5xxx video module is loaded already
and blocks the port.
newer libgphoto2 should be able to detach the device, if it is not in
use.
I guess it is in use in your case.
