I don't see anything wrong when looking at the contents of
libusb-1.0-0_1.0.6-1_amd64.deb (for Lucid) with dpkg-deb -c or with
gdebi. In 11.10 the library should install into /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/.

Actually, it doesn't appear to install the 64 bit libraries, either.
In Synaptic, libusb-1.0 (version 2:1.0.8-4) is marked as installed, but
if you open the properties for the package to view the installed files,
you're told "The list of installed files is only available for installed
packages".
Should it? Isn't this a case for ia32-libs?
