Actually, it doesn't appear to install the 64 bit libraries, either.

In Synaptic, libusb-1.0 (version 2:1.0.8-4) is marked as installed, but
if you open the properties for the package to view the installed files,
you're told "The list of installed files is only available for installed
packages".

There's nothing that matches /usr/lib/libusb-1.0* installed.

I removed the cached package and reinstalled, a new package file was
downloaded, installed, same result.

Oddest package snafu I've ever seen.

Hmm, the package size is listed as 135 kb, but the download size is
listed as 28.9 kb, the cached package file is:
