I can confim that this is fixed in Unity (flash videos can go fullscreen
without the window being automatically closed), however new windows
don't always get focus, hence unity won't hide or the window won't be
shown straight away. I've opened a new bug for that #642994.

No, fullscreen Flash worked fine until a recent change in Unity or
Mutter, while the flash/notify-osd issue has been around forever.

Jason: it seems to me that mutter and Unity interact with the fullscreen
flash player in a similar way. Can you investigate whether this is a
fundamental assumption of mutter/unity or whether that's fixable this
cycle?
