I re-installed big chunks of the pulseaudio system with no luck, but a fresh install of the OS fixed it up... not sure what was actually causing this, but it had been through a lot of updates since Alpha-3 so I guess it's just one of those things. Feel free to close this bug off... -- "monitor o

I opened "Sound Recorder", "Pulseaudio Volume Control" (from the package pavucontrol) and "Rhythmbox" (to provide a sound source). It's actually somthing I should have put in papercuts that I don't see a way to select the input device from within "Sound Recorder", but none the less... Start recor
