I've found a workaround, at least in the downloaded situation.
Hopefully it will work while streaming too.
If I begin playback of the file mentioned in comment #29 I get the
issue. If I then seek forward or back using Totem's slider playback
becomes normal and good. Further seeking back to the b
I downloaded one of the Geek Brief HD videos. I got one of the HD ones,
not the "HD (30fps)" but the other one just labelled "HD". Same problem
playing it in Totem as when watching it on the webpage with the Flash
player, which happens to also be the same problem you have been having
all along.
Clicking the links under the Geek Brief HD video play the video in the
Totem plugin for Firefox just like the Buzz Report. The Large one plays
fine but the two HD ones have serious issues. My hardware is pretty old
though.

Firstly there is the web-based scenario where I just click on the links
in comment #24. Geek Brief HD (GeekBeat.TV (HD)?) is an embedded Flash
video. So GStreamer is not involved, unless you use one of the
available Firefox addons to download the file and then play it back in
Totem. I'm also see
