Interesting that I don't have a "tickbox to allow executing file as
program" in the properties/permissions. But if I allow full
read/write/execute at all levels, it will also work but not my preferred
solution.

the solution that was posted in the Ubuntu forms for anyone that has the same
issue is to right click the icon and go to properties.
In the properties dialogue go to the permissions tab and at the bottom there is
a tickbox to allow executing file as program tick this and close the dialogue

How do I mark the launcher as trusted? I desperately need to mark an
application as trusted, and there seems to be no way to do it. Please

Yes I remember the button being there in 9.10 Karmic. Which is why I
noticed it wasn't there now. Its only a small problem but I can see a
lot of forum posts about it from new users to Ubuntu.

It happens to any application launcher. Seems that someone forgot to add
the button "mark this application as trusted"
