All I can say is, as I indicated above, CDs play fine with VLC but
Rhythmbox 0.12.8 is still not working properly.

I've just tried to play a CD again - and discovered that VLC media
player works fine. However, Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on Ubuntu 10.04 (AMD 64)
still interrupts playback every few seconds. So this seems to confirm
that the CD/DVD drive is not the problem.

Hi; sorry for the slow response. I have now upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04,
with 0.12.8 - but I'm afraid I have the same problem when playing CDs.
I've tried two other things:
Importing a CD using Rhythmbox and then playing the files in the
software: this plays back smoothly, without interruption to t
No, you cannot take the cd out, if you only have 1 cdrom drive that's
not going to work then, try upgrading to lucid and testing with that it
should work ok there's no much difference between the release as it is
today or the one at the end of the month. Thanks in advance Tom!.

Thanks for keeping in touch. I'd wondered about waiting for the final
release at the end of this month, but I had also considered using a
live CD. However, if the CD is running a live version of Ubuntu, can I
then take it out to play an audio CD?
I'm going to be away, in any case, f
you can either, upgrade your machine to lucid or download a Lucid CD and
test there with the live session.
