I have a similar problem that cropped up a few weeks ago. One week the
printer (HP2110) was working fine, then the next, after some updates, it
can't get to the printer. Same thing on all four of my Ubuntu Gutsy
systems. Oddly, I can print to it fine from my VirtualBox virtual XP
installation on
Same problem,
In Ubuntu Gusty its possible to configure an IPP printer (HP Laserjet
1320), but it doesn't print anything. In Kubuntu Gusty and Ubuntu Festy
it works well.
(Solved by editting the CUPS files to allow the Web interface adding the
printer in that way)

Hi everybody,
unfortunable the problem persists with the actual patch of ubuntu 6.06 LTS.
That is not the desired reaction for a LONG TERM SUPPORT. And that should not
be a prio low problem. As the predecessors wrote no solution and no workaround
exists.
SuSE 10.2 has not such a problem. The pr
same user rights and still not working.
Deep.

This is what I have: (ipp and smb are executable and readable in my
case)
$ ls -l /usr/lib/cups/backend*
/usr/lib/cups/backend:
total 52
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 7199 2006-04-11 16:39 beh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12024 2006-03-19 21:52 bluetooth
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12472 2006-05-03 13:43 canon
-rw
Can you check whether bug #63707 is hitting you?
Do
ls -l /usr/lib/cups/backend*
and post the output.
Then do
chmod a+rx /usr/lib/cups/backend*/ipp
chmod a+rx /usr/lib/cups/backend*/smb
and check whether everything is working correctly now.

I dist-upgraded to Edgy Beta over the weekend hoping it would fix this
problem. Unforunately it hasn't done that for me.
However strangely enough the problem seems only to be with my HP
LaserJet 5L. I can print to a Canon iP4200 (which is physically
connected to the same machine

Tried it, but unfortunately it doesn't solve anything for me.

Can someone of you try to use Edgy (live CD) as client and see whether
the problem goes away? Perhaps the CUPS from Edgy should be backported
then.

Does the workaround I posted work? It does for me.

What is the current status of this bug? I have not been able to print
for quite some time now. As the bug actually breaks the system I don't
understand its "priority = low". Shouldn't it be "critical"?
