In case there is any confusion, the OP is reporting that the "IM Status"
plugin for Rhythmbox does not "clear" the status that it sets in
Empathy.
If you start playing a song Empathy's status will get set to whatever
you are playing. This is correct and normal behavior. However when you

1) Activate the plugin in rhythmbox
2) Log on Empathy
3) Playing a musical
4) Quit Rhythmbox
The title of the music played before the closing rhythmbox will always
display
