Did Ubuntu switch either Thunderbird or openldap between using openssl
and some other SSL implementation, or between the openldap LDAP client
library and some other LDAP client library? That might explain why such
an old Thunderbird bug was suddenly relevant to Ubuntu when it wasn't

reported in 2005 against Thunderbird 1.0.2.
However, this launchpad bug is a regression between Ubuntu Karmic and
Lucid.

I'm seeing the same thing on karmic against thunderbird 3.0.3.
