Did Ubuntu switch either Thunderbird or openldap between using openssl and some other SSL implementation, or between the openldap LDAP client library and some other LDAP client library? That might explain why such an old Thunderbird bug was suddenly relevant to Ubuntu when it wasn't before. Were there any other packaging or build option changes in Lucid vs. Karmic?
