How about something simple: Clicking the button/text will present a pop-
up acknowledgment that will inform the user that it will attempt to
update the installer but that an internet connection must already be
configured. If proxy information is required, boot to the live CD
session, configure the

the installer should automatically update itself. Presumably it won't

Alan is correct that this button simply checks for a new version of the
installer software itself. The purpose of this is to give us a bit of a
get-out in case there are serious installer problems we don't catch
before release: we can publish them to lucid-updates and tell affected
users to press t
I actually thought it meant, "check for an updated version of this
installer" i.e. clicking the button would simply check for (and, if
found, install) a newer version of ubiquity - *not* any of the other
software updates that might otherwise be dealt with post-installation.
I guess this underlines
