OK.
I removed Cairo-Dock + OpenGL from start-up programs and replace it with
Cairo-Dock (without OpenGL).
Now it works.
Kaffeine, Mplayer, Dragon Player and VLC encounter no problem.

I have exactly the same problem in all the other player (Mplayer, Kaffeine...).
I had another problem with VLC, which crash just after having been started by
double-clicking.
So it must be a "global" issue (I probably miss something or have a bad
setting).
Nonetheless, I managed to play the file
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
Can you confirm that the same .avi plays as expected in a different
player. Totem, VLC etc.
