I had the same issue with Lucid in VirtualBox 3.1.4beta2. It only
started happening in the last week after I extensively edited xorg.conf
to try and get displaylink drivers working. I fixed it by removing
everything from xorg.conf except for:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "VBoxMouse"
I can confirm this. It only seems to occur when visual effects are
enabled in Gnome. For me this happens with Virtualbox 3.1.0 hosting a
Lucid guest (daily build). The mouse cursor becomes invisible as soon as
the window manager is loaded, however it is still functional in that the
desktop respond
wonder if it's a virtualbox bug more than in X.

sorry, i mean: mouse
in a VM-> if the normal 3D settings enabled i see no mouse. If i
disable the 3D settings the mouse comes back.
