One way to turn of the debug information is by editing the file
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service
You can do an "unset DEBUG" before the daemon is started, eg:

thanks for reporting this. However this is intentional and not a bug. The
developers decided to debug notify-osd in the current development version of
ubuntu. See [0] for the related changelog entry. This is why I'm marking this
