With Beta 1 the symptom doesn't show up. On the system I upgraded from 8.04 the
problem is still there.
The problem could be that I kept config files of certain packages during
upgrade instead of taking the new ones.
Is it clear that alsa-utils is "causing" this problem?

I can confirm the bug. After I log in, sound is muted. When I unmute it and
logout and login, it again is muted.
My lucid is current.

I can confirm the bug in Lucid. It seems to be regression.
Once I upgraded Karmic to Lucid there is sometimes problem with sound - it is
muted after login to Gnome.
I have to open "Sound Preferences" on gnome panel and uncheck "Mute" in output
volume. I tried it to uncheck it using context menu o
