I am having this problem with Intrepid. If I press ALT+CTRL+Backspace
the resolution is corrected.
I'm curious as to why this was marked as invalid. Other operating
systems (like Windows) don't suffer from this problem, so Ubuntu
shouldn't either.

Can you change your resolution on the fly with a ctl,alt,+ or ctl,alt,-
combination? Have you tried to choose your default resolution in the
System --> Preferences --> Screen Resolution tool? The check box that
says 'Make Default for this computer only' may fix this circumstance.

Hi, I can understand this problem, but the x server is trying to detect
the resolution from the attached monitor which the switch does not seem
to provide. You can work around this problem by editing your xorg.conf
by hand, but I think your bugreport will be rejected, since this is not
really a x s
