Hi felix,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

As i was upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 ( kernel 2.6.31-19 ), i had the same
problem with my :Zolid Xpert TV7134 card.
Thanks to youre solution of changing the card id ( to AVerMedia Cardbus
TV/Radio (E501R) ), i've managed to get te card working again!!! Even better:
the audio from the card stops
Glad that it worked for you.
But this is only a workaround - the actual bug is not fixed. Kernels >
2.6.28 have a bug in tuner detection which probably breaks many cards -
so the bug shouldnt be closed...

Great, devport.
card=80 tuner=66
seems to have done the trick (with a testing duration of only a couple of
seconds).
Would like to spend a bit more time in investigating (e.g. if the old kernel
likes it, too) and than close the bug.
Thanks again

The second issue is not a problem at least not for the hack around since
it appears in my log as well. See my post about sound - it should help
you get sound working under old kernels as well.
I see only 2 ways for you to get newer kernels working.

Thanks devport.
Unfortunately, with the options added, I am - like before - in an XOR situation:
With 2.6.28 I can change channels but no sound.
With 2.6.31 I can watch the channel previously selected (when booted the
2.6.28) with sound, but cannot change the channel.
Sound apparently works by sa
Concerning your lacking sound : Generally tv-cards require a connection
to the sound card. This connection can be done by connecting the line-
out port of the tv-card with the line-in port of your sound card. Then
you need to set the volume of line-in in the volume settings.
Alternatively some tv-

Thank you very much for sharing your insights.
I think I can confirm the multiple-tuner bug but was not yet able to fix the
initial issue.
My dmesg with a 2.6.28 kernel looks like the following (i stripped some
parts)
dmesg 2.6.28 :

For whatever reason some tv tuners wont be auto-detected in newer
kernels anymore. This is either due to there being more than one tuner
and only the first tuner being probed or some tuner`s auto-detection
being broken.
However this bug will only hit those people whose card description is
not corr
I have the same problem. In my case ( tv-card : Compro Videomate Gold+ )
I compared the kernel messages between (non-)working kernels and in my
case there are 2 tuners on my card - one for radio and one for tv. With
the working kernel 2.6.28 both tuners and thus the tv tuner is being
loaded. Newer
