Hi shanta,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

After weeks of problems and the rfkill stopped working in kbuilds 16 and
up. I then noticed that I have a button on the key board fro the wireless.
As I tend not to use these as they are mostly for windoz boxes I did not
have it physically turned on. Turned the switch on and up came my wireless

I tried to install Linux Mint 8 on a Dell Inspiron 9400, but in the Live
CD (where I am now) it says that Device is Not Ready under Wireless
network, iwconfig or sudo lshw -C network said that something was
DISABLED, I thought the wireless drivers for this laptop are now working
for Ubuntu, but now
not working with kernel 2.6.31.16 as well

In the quest to get my wireless lan back on line. I booted to the last
working kernel 2.6.31.15 the card work without intervention.
I then rebooted to the current kernel 2.6.31.16 and it is now working.

The last kernel update broke it completely. Now even the above 'fix'
dose not work at all. When the system first rebooted the wireless box in
the panel network box did not even show. rfkill unblock all which prior
to the kernel upgrade started the wireless lan, Now no effect. Another
reboot and the

...I mean "fixed it" but you have to type "rfkill unblock all" after
every power up.
prior to that "lshw -C network" reported wlan0 as "DISABLED" after
upgrading to 9.10
On 9.04 both the inbuilt ralink rt2501usb and an external Netgear
rtl8178 wireless hardware worked out-of-the-box.
