Unfortunately since your install worked fine, those logs wont get us any
closer to figuring out what's going wrong, but I'm glad you were able to
install in the end.

I used the same config as before in the above installation, but it
worked (/etc/fstab is there and gvfs-backends were installed).

I don't think I can run it in debug mode from the initial screen, can I?
ie the one that appears immediately after boot where it says 'Try
Ubuntu.../Install Ubuntu/...'.?
I did an earlier installation (admittedly from the amd64 ISO) where I
installed from the 'Try Ubuntu...' instead of 'Install Ub
The log file you've provided does not contain an installation attempt.
Please grab the latest daily-live CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live, verify the MD5 checksum
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM), and run the installer
in debug mode (`ubiquity -d` from a terminal window)
It might have failed to install a number of things. nautilus can't
handle smb:, ssh:, or network: locations, which is unusual.
