That happened with the last 2 disks I tried ripping, but both disks had
music videos on them too. Two icons came up on my desktop when I
inserted the disk, one labelled "Audio Disc", and one containing the
videos. I unmounted the video disc and now Rythmbox is letting me rip
the CD.

Looks to me like the Rhythmbox encoding profiles are all screwed up.
Under the preferred format dropdown box m4a, mp2, mp3, spx and wav are listed
as formats, but not flac.
in the 'edit' dialouge, flac has an empty encoding profile. ogg is MIA.
