So, I tried running empathy again (2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1) and it now offers
me to import from Pidgin, so I try, but it just hangs, opening no window
and installing no icon on the taskbar. I obtained the following
backtrace:

I think this is just what empathy actually requires, as I didn't have
any telepathy stuff that I know of installed before.
