Sorry, this is not fixed for me.
On startup / reboot:
- For a long time I see no panels at all. The full-screen windows are resized
in a way that they leave space for the panels, but the panels themselves are
just transparent bars showing the desktop image.

I still see this intermittently - every 3 or 4 logins roughly,
irrespective of whether the login is after a boot. This has persisted
over multiple installs (9.10 and 10.04, both x86-64). These were clean
installs, not upgrades, with no configuration files copied, either user

Ok! I reinstalled gnome-panel already but it did not fix the
GNOME_PilotApplet.server config file. The libnm-util I did not check. How
can I get the clean distribution version of those?

I don't get the segfaults into syslog any more, even though I copied
back the buggy empty GNOME_* files. The gdm-* and gnome-* logwrites are
the only ones that look even remotely related to the panel issue - or
maybe not?

Installing gnome-panel (1:2.30.0-0ubuntu2) below seemed to solve most
of the issues. The clock applet still gives the error message even
after the killall trick.
Additionally I found out several GNOME_*.server files with dummy content. The

The gnome-panel always gives several error windows when starting:
The panel encountered a problem while loading
"OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".
Additionally I get the same message for:
ClockApplet, IndicatorApplet, NotificationAreaApplet,

Yes, I was posting this because I was asking for more feedback. I'm
merely talking about the weather applet which updates more reliably
since a couple of days ago. But I guess my bug is rather bug 337629. If
people are still affected by this bug, then they should reopen. Sorry
about the confusion.
I'm not using lucid, but I'm not even sure that Bernhard is talking
about the same bug as most of us. The problem is about applets not
loading, not about the weather applet not updating.
Anyway, since this bug comes and goes, and nobody knows what's causing

It recently happens to me mostly after reboot, so I guess it's because
the network isn't connected in the beginning. "killall gnome-panel"
usually fixes the problem.

I get this pretty badly with latest lucid, especially the weather in
date and time does not update. Actually the weather icon completely

but am now having difficulty tracking down.
I'm new to ubuntu and have been trying it out on netbook (dell mini 9) -

Additionally, this is a bug that many users can experience without being
able to easily reach the relevant launchpad bug entry. I myself tried
several times to google for it, and only today I managed to land here.

I can say by personal experience that It has not been fixed in Karmic.
Since it isn't clear what causes this problem, the fact that it doesn't
reveal itself for someone on Lucid doesn't necessarily mean that it was
fixed.

I started getting this problem shortly after upgrading to 9.10 from
9.04.
At first, logging off and then back on seemed to do the trick.
now, a killall gnome-panel is required to get it to work and, as
mentioned above, there seems to be some issue with the weather applet.

Making a new user and rebooting/restart into the new user does not see
this bug. Is there a config option to look for. logging in and out after
running killall gnome-panel from TTY works on both users.

No I'm not running remix.
Butting head with Seb was not the intent. Since release is right around the
corner (next week i think) this is something that needs to be fixed and at this
point in release only Important bugs are looked at to be fixed and for me
dropping to a TTY to restart gnome-panel
Someone getting this bug should do a fresh install to see if the problem
persists. It seems to me to be some kind of race condition. It also
takes me an extremely long time to boot. I'm running Ubuntu Netbook
Remix - are you? If you do a fresh install and still have the problem,

Seb its not local since the otnly changes i made were adding 2 weather
applets and turning update* off. If you can provide a test case on how
