to reply to the comment gnome-panel didn't change a lot for several cycles so this bug you refuse to install karmic on is probably there in any GNOME distribution shipped in the recent years, nobody denies there is an issue but we get hundred of bugs a day and have ressources to look only to high priority issues and one affecting 2 users so far doesn't qualify especially if it's easy to workaround
