Do you have any messages in /var/log/syslog along the lines of
"serial8250: too much work for irq19" ? If so, Bug #413744 is probably a
duplicate.

I saw that NetworkManager doesn't lock up if I DON'T start dbus before.
I started a recovery mode session :
1) without dbus :
r...@computer:~# /etc/init.d/NetworkManager start
* Starting network connexion manager NetworkManager [OK]
r...@computer:~# /etc/init.d/dbus start
* Starting message sys
no problem sir, do you have your system up to date? what graphic card
(Intel, Nvidia, ATI?) do you have?

To encounter the problem, I do :
- start the computer
- let loading ubuntu
- wait for graphical interface to load
What happens :
- Instead of loading GDM interface, a black screen appears and the
computer is looked
What should happen :
- load GDM and not lock

I could see that dbus and hal are not involved in this bug.
I saw that NetworkManager causes the freeze. I removed it and Ubuntu
start normally.
I'm using ndiswrapper with a Sis163u chipset. NetworkManager is very
strange because sometimes it freezes, sometimes it doesn't. Every thing
works nice,
