I have actually found with some experimentation that switching
(completely) from compiz to metacity as my windows manager actually
resolved the issue completely. I can now resume my computer from either
state

Actually, F11 uses the 2.6.29 kernel series, whereas Jaunty/Gloria use
2.6.28, which obviously has less hardware support, so you can't be using
the same driver versions on both installs. Seeing as you said it
happens on Ubuntu too, I've forwarded it upstream, but it's unlikely
they'll be able to h
