I'm getting this in Karmic:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31-20-generic/modules.dep: No such file
or directory
Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
...and then I get kicked to an "(initramfs)" prompt.
I used ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso to populate the USB stick with
That file is created during the livefs build and should most certainly
be in the squashfs. If you mount the squashfs file from the CD image
itself (mount -t squashfs /cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs /mnt), can
you see the modules.dep file in the mountpoint?

I stumbled over this workaround while trying to install ubuntu netbook
remix via USB. As modules.dep i used one from a standard desktop
installation (same kernel version).
