I think these are the lines to add (will test now):

by adding the following line:

I believe I have solved the problem.
In /etc/default/grub, change the line below to add "acpi_osi=Linux" as
so:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"
Suspend now works magnificently!

To update, adding 'nomodeset' does indeed allow for successful suspend,
though not resume. Previously, the suspend would put the laptop into
suspend, while triggering the 'charging' light x 3. Then the system
would reboot.
It appears it is indeed tied into the display.

Hello all,
I just upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04, and my suspend issues have gotten
worse. Previously, one out of every ~ 5 suspends would fail. Currently,
they all fail. I will try the suggestion from comment #9 to see if it
works..
I'm not really sure how to further debug the problem, though. Hib
Just want to add a pointer to a very similar issue I have on my HP EliteBook

I have the same problem with Fedora 12 (updated, kernel
2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686.PAE) on the hp compaq elitebook 2530p.
It seems to be working better after adding the parameter "nomodeset" at
the end of the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.conf.
It also seems to have solved some small graphic issues
Dear Daniel,
I am now using Karmic. Hibernate works, but is slow to go to sleep (>30 sec)
and slow to wake up (>30 sec). This is with the programs Matlab, LyX and
Firefox open.
Suspend shuts down fast when there are programs open, but takes forever to
wake up (more than a couple of minutes, but po

Dear Andres,
I downloaded the .deb package of the most recent mainline kernel. I
installed it and everything looked fine. After reboot I got to the Ubuntu
splash screen, but rather quickly I got a black screen and the boot halted.
I will try to get another laptop (same model) from my employer and
Will do.

[Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 2530p] suspend/resume fail
Dear Andres,
Thanks for following up on this one.
My HP2530p is now a production machine, so I am afraid to brake it with an
alpha release. I tried the koala as you suggested, but only as a live
session user. It behaved exactly as in jaunty: goes nicely into suspend, but
I get a black screen when
