the result is the same using fast user switch applet or "sudo shutdown
-h now": the computer reboots instead of shutdown.
Concerning previous versions of Ubuntu, I can unfortunately not tell you
more. I just remember that I already had this problem several times

switch applet or from say the terminal via "sudo shutdown -h now". You
