I had the same problem on Jaunty, so I held out hoping it would go away
with Karmic, but no dice.
Doing some searching, it sounds like the power button is supposed to
flash when in suspend mode. That doesn't happen. Everyt
I think that's a known bug elsewhere; I know I've had problems with that
in the past. Usually turning your wireless off & on again fixes it.

Sorry to hear that, Ayush.
I just reinstalled Intrepid x64 from disc, added all updates from the
default repos and one (and _only_ one) package from the backports repo
(linux-backports-modules-intrepid) and everything is still working. At
one point in the process, things stopped working, but both
I am using Intrepid and still suffering from the problem.

I just did a little bit of testing and think this may be related to
kernel version and also perhaps to 32-bit vs 64-bit architecture (or of
support thereof), however the latter theory is unsubstantiated.
This is still an issue for both i386 and x64 bit Jaunty, the final
release, using kernel 2.6.2
Same issue on l305-s5933
