I can confirm the bug with Sony NWZ-A828. It also crashes the drive- applet in some cases, but that's another bug. In Ubuntu 8.10 the device connected via normal USB (it was shown such in the screen). In 9.04 the device connects via MTP. That's why the temporary solution by Jack Bakunin works well
