Heya Jamie, Actually, *usually* when you see X consuming a lot of CPU, it's not actually X... X is a server, so is simply responding to commands driven by some client program. So almost always the bug is something the client is doing wrong, and forcing the X server to do a bunch of extra work.

I meant to mention: a) running the same netstat command in a console works fine b) new users are also affected by it c) enabling or disabling compiz has no affect d) using different themes has no affect e) doing the same thing on another Jaunty system (64-bit with Intel graphics) does not have the
