Sorry about the delay. We have wifi working on this laptop courtesy of
the madwifi project. I wrote a small script that is called from
/etc/rc.local that updates the madwifi modules every time there's a new

I've never seen the sony-assamd option listed anywhere, but it clearly
does work.

try this:
1) $ gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
2) add/write the line to the end of the alsa-base file:
options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd
(in your case delete your line "options snd-hda-intel model=vaio" and write
this one insted)
3) Restart

Hi,
All channels are (and were) set to around 80. The PCM channel is not
able to be muted or unmuted, but the master channel can be. However,
there is still no sound.

Does it help to set PCM in "alsamixer -Dhw" to 80 and unmute the channel if
necessary with the key M?
