I confirm this on an Asus EEE 901. I never saw or modified my keyboard
shortcuts. This issue must be caused by an update, because it started
several weeks ago. I can remember that i plugged in the power many times
on Intrepid after it's release, but it did not start evolution. But now
it does every

I tried this again to attempt and confirm the issue. I created and
logged in as a new user as well as a guest user and was able to
reproduce the issue both times. For some reason, on this hardware it
thinks that plugging in the power is equal to the shortcut for
For me it seems that this bug is not reproducable if it does not affect new
users,

I believe the new user should have those values "reset". You could also
try a liveCD. Was it changing the value that fixed it or removing the
unused software?
Was the unused software the email client in question?

This issue does not affect a Guest session or a new user. I have changed
the Keyboard shortcut for opening the default mail client and have
cleaned up a few packages I no longer needed and the issue is now gone.
If you can instruct me on how to reset Keyboard shortcuts to default, I
can test to see

I would check Keyboard Shortcuts for anything out of the ordinary
(Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts)
Possibly try changing the Launch Mail Client to some other key.

The scripts are located at /etc/acpi/ac.d directory. In default
installation, one of them launches anacron, so this can be the path
through which evolution is triggered. There is a variety of places from
where anacron reads instructions, you can check with the man pages on
it.
