Martin, I was able to reproduce it.

I tried this again to attempt and confirm the issue. I created and
logged in as a new user as well as a guest user and was able to
reproduce the issue both times. For some reason, on this hardware it
thinks that plugging in the power is equal to the shortcut for mail
(XF86Mail). Once again this may be due to an update. I will next try to
reproduce this using a LiveCD although this may not have the updates
which causes this bug.

Bryan, no the unused software was not the email client in question.
