Sorry for not updating. I don't remember anymore when this started
working for me, but it has for a while. I can confirm that it was
working on 12.04 at least. The output I used was optical out.

Interesting. There doesn't seem to be a way to enable the digital output
from the new sound preferences panel, just the old menus. Can the
behavior of this be changed so that the output is active by default?

Using Jaunty Alpha 4, 2.6.28-8, got this working by going into the sound
preferences, making sure "HDA Intel" is selected, then enabling the
display of "IEC958" in the mixer, unmuting it and raising the volume.
Also booted back into 2.6.28-4 (Alpha 3) and it was working there, so it

I can confirm this also applies to other motherboards using the AD2000
Analog Devices audio codec (which is, according to the information from
Robbat2's LiveJournal, the same as the AD1989B). I've verified the same
