Hi,
I just wanted to say that this problem has not appeared again. Since I
fixed the "ghost" screen issue resume has been working fine.
Not sure if it's worth keeping the bug open in order to investigate the

Well, something has changed. The X terminal is back on F7; but still not
working right.
I restarted and cycled through the Ctrl-Alt-Fx combinations:

F8 -> boot messages
F9-F12 -> blank screen

I will double check the behavior regarding your questions. In any case,
I can tell you up front that the computer is quite responsive after
resume (CapsLock led, ssh, etc.) it's just that the screen remains blank
and, obviously, not very usable ;-)
Trying to get at least a VT is when I

Please also attach your /var/log/dmesg, /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old and
eventually your .Xsession-errors (in your home dir).
Some questions:
* When at the black screen, does ctrl+alt+backspace restart X?
* When at the black screen, can you ssh into the system
