The bug only appears when autologin is activated. Desactivating it the
feature returns to normal function.
Sorry, but I can't try it with an other OS, because I haven't any other
PC with an installed Intrepid or Jaunty.

Yes, it is reproducible.
The steps:
*take an installed Ubtuntu 8.04 (basic or complete)
*install and configure a second language (with special characters like "ç" or
"ñ")
*define a hotkey to switch between the languages (and/or other keyboard
settings)
*test the function with a text editor and
do you get the issue only when using autologin or that makes no
difference? could you try on intrepid or jaunty?
