I can confirm this bug as well.
After upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Ubuntu 8.10 beta, I noticed that
"update-manager" and "update-notifier" were no longer working
automatically. I was hoping that all of the updates from 8.10 beta to
8.10 final would fix the problem, but they haven't. I never g
