I have the attached Perl script running in version 2.5.1

Pidgin 2.5.1
Try running pidgin with -d. The output is useful for debugging, if you
pipe it to a file (pidgin -d > pidgin.log) you can attach it so we can
take a look. If you also attach your plugin I can

What version of pidgin did you observe this in? Is it a plugin written
in C or Perl? What's your output to "pidgin -d" run from the command
line? Could you also please attach a test plugin that didn't work for
you so that one of us can try it?
