I have the attached Perl script running in version 2.5.1

Pidgin 2.5.1

Try running pidgin with -d. The output is useful for debugging, if you
pipe it to a file (pidgin -d > pidgin.log) you can attach it so we can
take a look. If you also attach your plugin I can check it against my
known good environment.
