Just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10, and seeing the same problem with
missing information on the Help/About screen. Locale is en_US.UTF-8.
cat /etc/lsb-release returns:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=intrepid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.10"
I can't seem to get it to recog
IMHO:
I disagree with this issue marked as low priority. Given the target
audience for ubuntu, I believe such things should be some higher
priority, and scheduled for the very next available update.
Technically, this hurts nothing. My system works fine.
However, as far an "OS Image / perception"
Found out the PPA repos for OpenOffice are empty because of buggy
packages.
Not sure if this problem in Yelp affects anything else.

the following locale output:

I get exactly the same problem with both the about and the version with
