I can confirm that the solution from The Mike is working on 10.10 as
well. Personally I had to adjust the volume to the lowest to avoid
distorted sound. This may be because I have edited allot of config in my
long virtual trip to fix

in the first time, I used "my solution" running the kernel 2.6.28-11.
After an update I found problems again, so I just did the same steps to
solve the problem one time more. May be I am wrong, but I think that "my
solution" just fix the problem of the current running kernel!

Hi!
I tried your solution marcosbelancon on an Aspire 5520. It worked correctly
with kernel version 2.6.28-11. After I updated ubuntu with update manager to
kernel version 2.6.28-13, the result wasn't good. It was just garbage, as
descussed above.

Hi I know this is not a forum but can some please point me to the right

stuck on "sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite alsa-driver_1.0.20-1_i386.deb".

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 4520, just yesterday I have installed Jaunty
(at last), and I've tried the Mike's solution and it works!!! The in-
built mic now works although the sound is some crash. My laptop has an
AMD Athlon X2 processor and a nVidia chipset, the sound card is
Realtek. BTW i a
Indeed Mike, new alsa drivers worked a charm. I still haven't tried anything
else, but sound + internal mic are working perfectly.
I have to turn the Internal Mic Boost almost all the way down because the
recording is too noisy otherwise.

I fixed this problem on my Acer Aspire 5520 Notebook. I had the exact
same problems above, but can now record audio just fine with the
internal microphone from the Acer CrystalEye Camera and Microphone
combo.
NOTE: This problem was experienced in Ubuntu 9.04 and Linux Mint 7. The
fix was performed

want to make big changes post-release because that can introduce
regressions...such as the one you've got here (that isn't, by the way, making

not...well, all bugs are considered as affecting the current development
release unless a task exists specifically for another version. I can open a
Hardy task if you like, but it's not up to me on whether it'll end up be
sudo alsa force-unload

Can't you just use a live cd and do "sudo modprobe -r snd-hda-intel" then
"sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel" after doing what Andres suggested?
If you wait til Jaunty's released, it's probably not getting fixed in Jaunty.

Michael, the ubuntustudio-plugins was a suggestion made by a reporter
that sadly didn't help in the issue at hand and the problems caused by
those plugins are not related to this bug at all.
Also the bug is related to Acer laptops, HDA-Nvidia and ALC268 codec.

I've done as instructed and after installing ***160 new packages*** I
found out that QAMix has no "MIC" setting under capture tab.

Open up the Synaptic Package Manager and install ubuntustudio-audio and
ubuntustudio-audio plugins. Next, open up QAMix, go to Capture TAB and
set it to MIC.

Same problem on Acer Aspire 5100-3367 running Ubuntu (Edubuntu) 8.04.1 (64-bit)
Also confirmed that the mic does capture and work properly under Vista
(unit came with Vista pre-installed and is now set up dual boot.)

Just as a side note, Skype is not working any longer on my laptop
complaining about issues with sound playback, it was working fine before
I upgraded the kernel, so I fear something is bad with 2.6.24-21-generic
and sound.
