I installed Ubuntu 8.10 (kernel 2.6.27-7) on my HP dv6910 laptop recently. My external mic port is working fine but the inbuilt mic doesnt work. My card: HDA Nvidia, Chip: Conexant CX20561 (Hermosa). I am sure it is not a hardware problem. I will be glad to give additional information if required.
