Make sure you do NOT have multiple plugins installed.

should NOT output other than:
flashplgin-nonfree
if it does, remove the other packages in some way (apt-get, aptitude,

I'm getting this on Jaunty. Flash just stops working for new tabs and
displays a white box. It happens at least once a week, and is fixed by
restarting firefox.
I can't remember, but I think it has the same effect in firefox 3; I am
using 3.5 as of late.

As I watch a flash video, it starts off fine, then the firs thing to go
is the video, which turns grey, then after about 2-3 seconds, the sound
stops. I've followed various instructions on re-installing pulse audio
and the like, but nothing is helping.

Just happened again. Reboot also fixes. Will let you know if / when
it fails again.
Don't know if it's related or not, but when I tried to reboot when
flash failed, got the double Ubuntu progress bar, (upper one updating,
lower one doing nothing) that I believe I've only gotten when I

I was also getting this error when starting firefox:
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so [libnss3.so: cannot open shared

I was able to get both flash and sound to work by resolving that link:

I just peeked at dmesg output and found a single line:

I just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 this morning. Flash doesn't work. I
tried reinstalling as suggested above, but no luck. This is frustrating
-- flashplugin-nonfree is installed, firefox sees it, but any page that
requires flash thinks I don't have it.

Re-installing fixed the problem for me (intrepid beta amd64).
But I did try to reinstall from synaptic before reading this posts and
that did not work, then I turned off "visual effects" off and in the
meantime I found this bug-report. From there I reinstalled from terminal
with the code provided

For everyone still experiencing this symptom in current intrepid, please
first ensure that you are not using any manually installed (i.e., in
~/.mozilla/firefox/...) Flash plugins, and second try:
sudo aptitude reinstall flashplugin-nonfree
Also, please report whether the steps resolve the sympto
I have the same problem except I don't even see the grey box.
On YouTube for instance, it says "you either have JavaScript turned off or an
old version of Adobe's Flash Player."
Javascript is turned on and I just upgraded to the latest version of Flash.
Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I had this issue too. I had those grey boxes instead e.g. the youtube
video. I tried to install flash rc 10 from the adobe labs site, but this
didn't help. Reinstalling flash
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-nonfree

I think it is the pulseaudio packages itself that cause this regression.
I downgraded them to 0.9.10-2ubuntu2 and things work again.

I had everything working, sound and video, in Intredpid, but recent
updates broke it. Now if I have other apps playing sound, then flash
will start but no sound and hangs after 1 second. I am using the ALSA
pulse plugin to redirect sound using the /etc/asound.conf.

Thanks to Alexander S on IRC there is a fix for flash always crashing.
In a terminal run:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-nonfree
The root cause that some have it and others do not relates to the way
that individuals have upgraded their Intrepid build configuration
overtime. Alexande
